Its very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle while, what that means for you may be different for each person however,I think we can all agree that finding tasty meal that are good for you and delicious, that everyone in family even the lit tots will love.
When looking for ways to add varity to your meals what kind of alterations are you selecting? Tofu and Tempeh are great alternatives to beef, pork, or chicken. They are both made from soy Tofu is nutrients and soy extracted from the soybean while Tempeh still retains the bean thus it has a chewier texture then Tofu.
When you buy Tempeh or just have it stored in refrigerator you may notice dark spots that appear to be spoilage, this is not so its part of the natural culturing process that the soy goes through to be turned into Tempeh. So go bravely forth past its initial looks. Before you do anything with Tempeh its best to steam it to release its full flavor. It only takes five minutes and makes a world of difference take 2-3 tablespoons of water and steam the the Tempeh in the microwave or do it on the stove top. Once you have the Tempeh probably steamed follow the directions in an easy to follow recipe. Below is a link to a very tasty basic way to prepare Tempeh that will give you a good idea of its flavor and texture. Its actually a breakfast dish that would replace eggs but it is wonderful any time. Use a grater to crumble Tempeh to be used in replace of ground beef for tacos or spaghetti sauce, cube it to replace chicken in chicken ala king or whatever your favorite traditionally meat based dish is.
Tofu often gets a bad wrap. Many peoples first experience with Tofu was improperly seasoned and leaves people coming away with conclusion that Tofu is nasty because it doesn't taste like anything. The wonderful thing about Tofu is that it acts as a sponge and soaks up the flavors of whatever it is being cooked with. Its a good way to insert protein into your regular diet. There are four basic types of Tofu silken, soft, firm, and extra firm. Silken and soft are often used in desserts, soups, dips and condiments these types are wonderful additions to breakfast smoothies for a quick breakfast on the go. Firm and extra firm are stiff enough to act as a meat substitute. a few quick and tasty ways to prepare Tofu are marinate it in Italian dressing for thirty minutes in the refrigerator then broil it in the oven until it is crispy. Or in the mood for fried chicken? Try draining Tofu for several hours then pressing the excess water off. Slice and quickly dip into a little bit of water, then flour mixed with favorite spices (or try cornmeal, gulten free baking mix is also tasty) both sides, put into your preferred frying agent. Fry until golden brown.
Try out these and other Tofu and Tempeh recipes for a quick alternative for dinner.
